A relationship is never perfect and problems are always present. Although you are sure about what you feel about your partner – there is this little voice inside telling you to take a pause and contemplate. No miracle or magic can fix a broken relationship. Losing love, respect and most especially trust can impair a relationship and will be destined to fail. It is hard to save a relationship when you are in doubt if it is worth saving.

Here are some simple guides to help you in making the most important decision in your relationship:

  • Determine if your relationship is worth saving or not. It takes two to tango, so if you want your relationship to work, make sure that you don’t do all the effort. If you see your partner unwilling, better pause and think if what you are doing is right.

  • Is there an abuse involve? Abuse is not only physical, it can also be an emotional abuse – which is much worse. If there is an abuse involve in the relationship, you need to turn your back and never look back. A relationship is never worth saving when there is an abuse involve, it will just continue and worsen over time. A person who loves you will never hurt you in any way.

  • Is your busy schedule also an issue? Granting that work is important, but you should also schedule a time for yourself and your partner to go out on a date once in a while, let this be your time to talk and relax. Put off your mobile phone and find a nice place to rekindle the dying flame in your relationship.

  • Know the real issue of your problem and make a plan of action together to solve the issues immediately. Bear in mind to deal with the problem itself and not the symptom. For instance, a lot of people would consider infidelity as the real issue that leads to separation. All the while – this is only a symptom of a much bigger and deeper problem.

  • If the reason you are still together is because of the kids, think again. Yes, the children needs both parents in growing up – but he or she doesn’t need parents who fight every single day of his or her life. Having a child cannot save your relationship. It needs both partners to make a strong commitment to save it.

  • Reflect on your behaviour. This one of the most important steps to save your relationship. Are you sure you are not doing anything wrong? Maybe you are nagging your partner most of the time? Subconsciously throwing insulting words at them or making them feel inadequate and unappreciated. If you are doing these things – are you willing to change?

Every relationship is a work in progress. Even what you thought the most perfect partnership has their share of challenges. After you reflect on these guides, ask yourself if you are willing to make changes or there is still a chance between you and your partner. If your relationship is worth saving, go ahead and make the first step.
